It is that time of the year when 17-18 year old finish their class 12 exams and have that one nagging question in their mind- "What now?" It is a very critical crossroad of a student's life. Choosing the right career is of utmost importance and among all the career decisions that come from various mouths, a surprisingly large amount of students feel that the perfect career choice is engineering.
The amount of groundwork and planning that goes in order to get a substancial score in the entrance exams is immense. But, still we put in all our efforts, go through all the processes, give the obligatory tests. We are relieved. Sure, it is the perfect emotion. But is that all that is required? No. It is at this point that you will find yourself in the dilemma of which college or branch of engineering to choose. This is the most important and perhaps the most difficult question you will face. Making one mistake here can cost us dear! Clearing the test is only the stepping stone. Choosing the right branch and college is as important and more.
Many a times, students choose engineering as their stream without giving it an adequate thought. Then, while admissions, the storm finally hits. Its high time to choose the right branch of engineering. Getting into any stream is far from adequate. It takes a lot of personal interests and unbound efforts to be a successful engineer even after choosing a stream. It requires putting in loads and loads of hard work even to achieve the slightest amount of success. You can't pick one of the most trending streams or the one your sibling or neighbour is doing! Following what they are doing or what your parents suggest should not be your only
Each engineering-pursuer should try and get a basic idea about each field and then try to locate their interest. It is absolutely important as that's what you are going to have to study and pursue the rest of your lives!! Just because "someone you know" got a really high salary job in "so-and-so" field, isn't a requisite enough excuse to choose the sphere.
Irrespective of the field, the interest of the engineer is what makes success 100%!
The choice of your college goes a long way in determining the way in which you will be shaped as an engineer.
Apart from the academic strands, the way your personality and your dynamics are also affected by the choice of the correct field in the right college. One right choice will pave a way for your success. But that decision taken in haste or merely by influence will leave you stranded
Having made the choice myself a couple of years earlier, I have seen both, the Farhans and the Ranchos (3 Idiots reference people!!). What impact it had on their lives is known by us all.
Attending seminars, reading articles are ways that show you the various directions and help you choose your path. It doesn't take great efforts, especially when you just have to click once (link here). Hope this article has modelled you to realize the importance of choosing the right field and branch in engineering!! All The Best!!
